Are you looking to enjoy a new activity? The equestrian centers around our Fort Washington apartments offer a few hours of fun! Whether you would like to try a single lesson or become an advanced rider, the best horseback riding destinations include:

MerryMount Equestrian Center

Nestled in the heart of southern Maryland’s horse country, MerryMount has been a local fixture since 1960. It welcomes riders from the greater Washington area and features a main barn and an indoor riding arena. Students learn from Instructor Catherine Gladmon-Farley. She is a nationally recognized trainer who offers group, private, and semi-private lessons. Beginners can progress at their own pace, and they learn basic riding techniques, along with grooming, tacking, and safety.

Twice a year, MerryMount holds horse shows for both boarders and students. They’re designed to help riders improve their skills, and winners take home ribbons or trophies. Participation in these week-long events is optional.

Tamarack Stables

Found among the rolling hills of Virginia’s historic Mason Neck region, Tamarack welcomes riders of all experience levels. The instructors have years of experience and help first-time students become comfortable around horses and in the saddle. One hour lessons are offered daily, and the stable is home to over 20 school horses that are both gentle and charming.

Tamarack also offers public trail rides along Pohick Creek. These guided adventures are a fun way to spend a leisurely afternoon. All skill levels are welcome, and riders can bring apples, carrots, or sugar cubes to feed to the horses.

Horseback riding is just one of the activities that you can enjoy as a resident of our apartments in Fort Washington, MD. To call our community home, please contact us. We’d love for you to see firsthand all we have to offer.
