Did you know that Italian immigrants brought pizza to the United States at the start of the twentieth century?

The country’s first pizzeria opened in New York City in 1905, and today there are thousands found from to coast.

If you would like to enjoy a few slices, here are three pizzerias within 13 minutes of our Fort Washington apartments:

Fiorella Italian Kitchen & Pizzeria

At Fiorella Italian Kitchen, it’s all about the delicious food and effortless Italian charm. The restaurant is located in the heart of National Harbor, and visitors enjoy stunning views of the Potomac. It offers a cozy setting and features dim lighting, a brick ceiling, and a look into the open kitchen. Signature pizzas include Margherita, crab, and truffle & mushroom.

Pizzeria Paradiso

What began on the second floor of a small Dupont Circle townhouse, now has five other locations across the area. Pizzeria Paradiso received immediate critical acclaim and is rated as one of the best pizzerias in D.C. The chefs bake the pizzas at least 650 degrees, and the oven is in the heart of the restaurant so that visitors can feel its warmth. Pizzas include Quattro Formaggi, Napoletana, and Siciliana. They pair well with a pint of Cherry Stout or Hazy Little Thing.

Since 2007, RedRocks has served hundreds of thousands of Neapolitan-style pizzas. The recipes are inspired by the best pizzerias in Naples, and they’re made using the finest, freshest ingredients. The chefs make the dough daily and bake the pizzas in a classic wood oven at 900 degrees. RedRocks is known for its lively crowd and upbeat vibe, and the service is always attentive. Specialty pies include Pomodoro, Toscano, and Guanciale.
